Intoxicated Snail

After a night half drowned
in cheap lager
swollen belly, bloated body,
sunk deeper in alcohol than
you expected,
unable to float
twisting up, searching for
the surface
turning, swirling
your full frilled silver skirt
silken sheen of slavered skin.
Aquatic dancer. I lifted you
carried you up the concrete
path to a drier place
where you lay swollen
within the spiraling walls
of your swaying home.
Antennae drooped, senses dulled
Sobriety stolen.
You spewed a pool
of what you drank last night
a slow resurrection
out of the influence.
Reformed to what you were
before, only slightly
worse for wear
from your malted barley lite.
Before you left you stretched
out your feelers to navigate
your next heading,
a new direction.
You slinked off silently, leaving
in your trail a wet reminder
that you were here.
